COMMISSIONS
creating artwork for your home or workspace
commissioning from my studio involves discussion and often drawings , colourways and visits to locations
below are a few wallhangings made in recent years.
IRISES
This large wallhanging was a response to the planting and grounds of the gardens at the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire's home at Aylburton , Glos.
He visited my studio at Brewery Arts, Cirencester, on a tour with Prince Charles .
Subsequently they commissioned a piece inspired by the iris beds in the gardens , for a conservatory at their home. The brief was to bring the vibrant landscaped gardens into the room
The piece also acts as a sound insulator to create additional warmth.
LAVENDER FIELDS LUBERON
Taken in my studio in Ledbury showing some of the various fleeces , wool tops , silk fibres used to create a large wallhanging. These pieces were for a client in Oxfordshire , who wanted works for his house at Menerbes , Luberon , again to bring the outside in .
Depicting , sunflowers , lavender fields and pines , I wanted to capture the shadows across fields as I remembered that powerful sunlight in the South of France .
SAFFRON/BLUE
This piece was for an office space . The client required a colourfield reflecting the minimal environment. I had at hand these felted squares in saffron yellow and lavender and as they were complimentary colours , they seemed to work.
DANIEL BINGHAM TRUST
Commissioned by the Trust for New Brewery Arts , Cirencester , this needed to incorporate the many aspects of this philanthropist's life and was complex to design. He built Cirencester Library so books were essential but impossibly tricky with fleeces... as were the Dutch railways ?
( the little sheep were made from Cotswold Lion fleeces from a friend's farm )
LYME
This work was created for a therapy office in Harley Street. Along with 'Tsambika' , a beach scene from Greece , the hanging was bought and box framed for the space. Called 'Lyme' it was made after visits to Undercliff Fossil Beach , Lyme Regis . Having collected pebbles , stones , fossils , over the years i wanted to use many types of fleece to describe each stone, Heavily machine embroidered gave it stability and definition.
FALL
'Fall' , merino fleeces , other natural fleeces , flax , silk fibre. This piece was commissioned via an exhibition I was in at Black Swan Gallery , Frome. Incorporating many fibre types , replicating feathers came easily with this medium. For a school in Frome.
GRAYSON PERRY
working from his drawings I have created several accessories for Grayson over the years. Having known him for many years and working along side for over 6 during college days , I invited him to launch New Brewery Arts rebuild in 2008. We discussed various pieces he wanted to commission , one of which was this felted bag , to coordinate with a 'Panto' costume one year.
